The NDC area within Doncaster was chosen by a varied group of individuals including representatives from the Council, Police, Health Authority, Voluntary Groups and members of the local community.
They were given the task of choosing an area within a strict set of Government criteria. NDC areas could only:
Cover communities, which had very serious social or economic problems
Cover an area up to 4000 households
Spend funding within the NDC area or on work which benefited the people of that area.
Doncaster's NDC area was chosen to try and spread the benefits of the funding across as many communities as possible. This offers a number of benefits to the different communities but it does mean that our NDC area looks a bit disjointed.
The NDC area also cuts across the town centre. However, while we will work with local businesses, it is not expected that large amounts of funding will go in to the central shopping area. Our boundary also cuts across a number of smaller community boundaries. We know this sometimes causes frustration if a project outside our area cannot receive funding from us.
However, our vision is to lead change that improves the quality of life and environment of NDC residents now and for future generations. We will engage with partnerships that cut across the whole town. We wantthe benefits of NDC to ripple out to a much wider area. NDC can be used to attract other large amounts of money to a much wider area. Perhaps most importantly NDC can be the catalyst for bringing people from different communities together to achieve much bigger thing.
The NDC area is made up of five distinct communities covering around 4,400 households.
